While reading I was struck with thoughts of what would I do if faced with a choice of my wellbeing and my faith. An insight into the horrors of the past. Anyone of faith should read this series. Written with so much history with rich characters.

I was encouraged to discover a book of this scope and time in history. It is a fictional book filled with real historical information of the persecution of Huguenot Protestants in France. My own family tree ends back in these days when many people ‘disappeared’. Only one young man from our family who escaped to The Netherlands and England on the way to the New World in 1688 carried on the family name. I love this book as much as I deplore the time in history it depicts. It speaks of hope when it was difficult to find in systematic persecution of a whole people group of entire families.

This is not only an impressive historical novel, but a story of hope, perseverance and commitment. Mr. Monk has pulled together family histories, old journals, letters, historical documents and records and woven real life events into the trials of one family, as they made their way to a secure future. I had heard the word "abjure" but never fully appreciated what it meant. The first chapters opened my eyes to the horrors inflicted upon Protestants in 17th century France who refused to renounce their faith. The trilogy recounts the tribulations the Depech family, and many others, faced. The author takes his readers to many parts of the world and exposes us to details of history we learned nothing about in sanitized courses. Tastefully written, yet clear in describing unsavory events, I found myself re-examining my understanding of world events. This is the history of my family

The Huguenot Chronicles are a very enlightening series! Based on factual history, they are a strong story about the 1600's in which the Catholics persecuted the Protestants. And details the Protestants struggles to survive amidst life-threatening odds. Fast- paced, strong characterizations, and very well-written and researched. Loved this trilogy, learned much about a time in history about which little is known. Highly recommend!!

I like that it followed what happened in one family for many years, even though they were separated. Even though they are novels, the events in it are historic. History becomes more real to me in a books like these rather than just dry facts.

I loved this trilogy, written by Paul C.R. Monk. It kept me interested from book one through to the last. The suffering of the family due to holding onto their principles is a lesson we should learn today. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys history and a great story.
